I had an artificial disc replacement in my cervical spine to repair spinal stenosis caused by a bone spur and herniated disc. The artificial disc is called Synthes ProDisc-C. I refused to have fusion and chose this option instead
After surgery. I came home the next morning and on the third day (today) I went for a 2 mile walk. I do have muscle pain and aches and cannot lift much, but I can care for myself, walk and socialize with visitors in my home. I am told I will have full recovery in 4 weeks with full range of motion.
Already I can now safely be in the sitting position and I can drive again!
My right shoulder muscles burning is strong. I am told this is because of C5/C6 nerve. As I understand it, the nerve was being pushed on by my bone spur for a long time and the nerve root needs time to heal. My throat is not too bad…Just before surgery I asked the anesthisiologist for the next size smaller tube and I believe that made a big difference in minimizing any sore throat pain.
Know your options before you agree to fusion. Do what is best for your body long term. You deserve it.
